Hillsborough sidewalk improvements planned thanks to federal grant

TAMPA (FOX 13) - A federal grant will be used to improve sidewalks at several Hillsborough County schools.

The sidewalks set to get the makeover currently lead to nowhere and are not connected with other walkways at nearby neighborhoods and businesses.

County officials said they want to fill in the gaps to make for safer walking conditions.

"We want to be able to make those conditions better for the kids," said John Lyons, with Hillsborough County Public Works.

The $850,000 investment will be used to improve sidewalks at the following schools:

-Eisenhower Middle School

-Stowers Elementary School

-Summerfield Elementary School

-Cypress Creek Elementary School

"I think it's a great investment," said Eric Gee, whose children attend school in Hillsborough County.

The grant is worth nearly $850,000. The project is scheduled to start this fall and be completed by spring of next year.
