History takes flight in new MacDill AFB exhibit
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Bay History Center is celebrating one of the area's most iconic pieces of history - MacDill Air Force Base.
Sunday was MacDill Day at the center, and all throughout the building, exhibits highlighted the 75th anniversary of the base. People who stopped by learned all about MacDill's history by looking at artifacts and watching World War II military reenactors.
"It's a good thing for the community to learn about where they're from and how we got to where we are now. I love seeing the history center full of visitors, [and] full of eager young folks learning about history," says TBHC director of marketing, Manny Leto.
The history center's new exhibit, called "History Takes Flight," tells the story of MacDill through its aircraft and includes 17 scale models from the B-17 bomber to the F-16 fighter jet.
