Hometown Heroes: Photographer helps Tampa's adoptable dogs

Adam Goldberg has a very special gift. Not only is he a talented photographer; he's also fluent in the language of dog. He barks, makes Chewbacca noises, anything to get the attention of his furry models.

"I bark and they tilt their head and it's the perfect picture," explained Adam.

He does professional photo shoots with every adoptable dog at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay—  all for free.

According to Sherry Silk, the Humane Society's executive director, more than 50 percent of people look for pets online so every photo is important.

"When you see a really good picture of one of our dogs, cats, or even rabbits or guinea pigs it makes all the difference in the world," said Sherry.

Each picture goes on the Humane Society of Tampa Bay's website where pet lovers can browse through the thousands of rescue animals. Before Adam got involved, HSTB volunteers took intake pictures with their cell phones. But now that they have Adam, the animals each get their own elaborate shoot with professional cameras, a studio backdrop and lights.

It's a pretty smart idea, combining his love of dogs and his passion for photography, which happen to be his two most favorite things. And most importantly, Adam’s work helps change the lives of animals in need of forever homes.

"It's a great feeling to know that there's adoptable animals out there that I get to take pictures of and help them find a home."

Do you want to help out, and get some great photos of your pup? This Saturday and Sunday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. you can take your dog to have his very own photo shoot with Adam. Proceeds will go to The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

The event will be held at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay on N. Armenia Avenue. For more information, visit the Humane Society’s Website.
