The Brief

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A Jacksonville judge denied bond Tuesday for the fifth suspect facing charges for the Tampa murder of rapper "Julio Foolio."

Davion Murphy, 27, was on the run for more than six months before his arrest earlier this week.

The crime

Backstory: According to police, five people traveled to Tampa to carry out the deadly shooting of Julio Foolio, whose real name was Charles Jones.

In the early morning hours of June 23, 2024, the rapper traveled to the Home2Suites near USF after celebrating his birthday. Surveillance video recorded three shooters firing at his vehicle in the parking lot, killing him.

Surveillance video from the night Jacksonville rapper Julio Foolio was shot and killed in Tampa played in a courtroom as three suspects faced a judge Thursday.

Police believe a gang war led to the deadly shooting.

The suspects

What we know: Investigators identified the shooters as Sean Gathright, 18, Rashad Murphy, 30, and Davion Murphy.

Isaiah Chance, 21, and Alicia Andrews, 21, have been described as "lookouts" who followed Jones as he moved around Tampa to two clubs in the hours before the shooting.

Rashad Murphy and Chance are documented members of two different gangs known as "ATK" and "1200." These gangs are both rivals to Jones' gang, "6 Block."

At least some of the suspects in the case could face the death penalty if convicted, according to prosecutors.

What's next: According to Hillsborough County court records, Gathright, Chance and Rashad Murphy are tentatively scheduled to stand trial in April 2026.

Records show Andrews could stand trial this August, barring any delays.

Davion Murphy is expected to be brought back to Hillsborough County to face charges. No trial date has been set.
