'Known' drug dealer arrested after months of complaints: SCSO

A man who Sarasota County deputies call a "known narcotics dealer" is behind bars after they say searches of his car and home led investigators to drugs and a loaded gun.

The backstory:

SCSO said its TAC Unit pulled over Elvis Shine, 33, earlier this week, then found cocaine and MDMA in his car. He was also driving with a suspended license, deputies said.

Investigators then executed a search warrant at Shine's home in Nokomis, where SCSO said they found more than 50 grams of powder cocaine and a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun.

The sheriff's office said multiple people have complained about drug activity at Shine's home in recent months prior to his arrest.

Shine is being held in jail without bond and faces the following charges:

  • Possession of cocaine with intent to sell
  • Possession of MDMA with intent to sell
  • Trafficking in cocaine
  • Driving with license suspended
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
