Lakeland home where 3 killed 'one-stop shop' for drugs
LAKELAND (FOX 13) - Sheriff Grady Judd said drugs were likely the reason behind three people being shot and killed - and a fourth critically injured - at a Polk County home Wednesday morning.
A 911 call led deputies to the bloody crime scene. According to Sheriff Grady Judd, it was around 6:45 a.m. when the call came that "people had been shot" in the home on East Magnolia Street in the Combee area of the city.
Judd said after a preliminary investigation, there were four victims. Three of them died. The fourth suffered a gunshot wound to his face and was in critical condition.
The three deceased were identified as 24-year-old David Washington, 31-year-old Anita "Stacy" Branch and 23-year-old Angelica Castro.
The fourth, 18-year-old Felix Campos, was shot in the face and in critical condition at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Judd said the home was known in the area as being a "one-stop shop" for marijuana, cocaine, pills and other drugs.
"Whatever you need, they had here," Judd said.
The sheriff said his office had preliminary evidence showing the suspect or suspects took drugs, money and possibly items from the home.
Judd took time during the news conference Wednesday afternoon to address potential suspects.
"For those of you who are the suspects, we're coming after you. We're gonna find you. We're gonna put you in jail. And we're ultimately gonna put you in prison for the rest of your life, or send you to the death chamber," the sheriff said.
He said 40-50 investigators from multiple departments were working to identify and unknown number of suspects.
The sister of one of the victims, David Washington, said he will be missed.
"That's my only friend. That was the only person I knew since we've lived here," Jessica Washington said. "We were so close to each other, and it's really going to devastate my kids because he coaches their football, and it's just going to really hurt them. I don't even want to tell them when they get home from school."
Jessica Washington also said the female victim, Anita Branch, was girlfriend to her brother, David.
