Local groups send ship loaded with supplies to Puerto Rico

A ship called Glory has been loaded with supplies and will depart from Port Tampa Bay on Saturday for Puerto Rico.

The ship is bringing hygiene supplies to the island, which was devastated by Hurricane Maria in September of last year. The supplies includes shampoo, soap, toilet paper and toothpaste.

The initiative is a collaborative effort between Good Samaritan Shipping Ministries, JJ Lyon Guard Foundation, Port Logistics Refrigerated Services, A.R. Savage & Son and Port Tampa Bay. Each of the organizations and companies played a key role in getting the ship loaded and on its way.

The couple who founded Good Samaritan Shipping Ministries, Shawna and James Downs, live on the Glory with their children.

The supplies will go to residents in Puerto Rico who are still recovering from the damage caused by Hurricane Maria.
