Loomis worker robbed while taking cash from Wawa ATM
TAMPA (FOX 13) - A suspect took off with a bag of cash being removed from an ATM at Wawa on Hillsborough Avenue Wednesday, according to Tampa police.
The Tampa Police Department said a Loomis Armored Security employee was unloading money from the ATM inside the Wawa just after 3 p.m. The worker put a clear bag full of cash next to him when the suspect grabbed it an took off.
TPD said officers think the suspect jumped the 8' fence on the south side of Wawa, so K9 and patrol officers set up a perimeter to track him. They ended up at a house on N. Alexander Road, directly south of Wawa, but did not find the suspect there.
Two hours later, a witness came forward to say they possibly saw the suspect run south on Alexander, toward Mendenhall Elementary School, which was briefly on lockdown.
The suspect was described as a 5'8"-5'10" black male with a light complexion, a medium build and wearing baggy, dark blue clothing, including a hoodie, a green, reflective traffic vest and white boots.
Anyone with information about the suspect or the theft is asked to call Tampa police.
