Man dies after being hit by helicopter rotor at Brooksville airport
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (FOX 13) - A man died when he was hit by the rotor of a helicopter at the Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport Thursday, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Al Nienhuis said Salvatore Disi, 62, was killed instantly.
It happened on Flight Path Drive in Brooksville, Florida Thursday afternoon. The view from SkyFOX showed yellow tape surrounding an area between hangars at the airport, with a green tent set up next to what appeared to be a blue Bell 230 helicopter.
In a release to the media, the sheriff's office said a call came in from a man who said he and Disi were using a power cart to jumpstart the helicopter.
They're not sure why, but the caller said the helicopter "suddenly jerked up and then came down," according to the sheriff's office.
That's when one of the rotor blades hit Disi on his head, killing him.
The sheriff's office said the helicopter is used by Dr. Alfred Bonati.
The incident remains under investigation.
