ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - St. Petersburg police have launched a homicide investigation after a 74-year-old man was shot inside his home on Sunday.
The St. Pete Police Department said Julius Moore, 74, was found shot in the head after he was checking in on by his family and after officers got a warrant to enter his home. This happened at Moore's residence on 19th Avenue South in St. Pete.
"We got a call Sunday morning from the relatives of the victim," St. Pete Police Public Information Officer Ken Knight said. "They found him unconscious and non-responsive. Paramedics were called out to the scene and determined that he was deceased."
There is currently no suspect charged or arrested, or a determined motive to his murder. However, the Tampa Police Department does have a person of interest detained, who allegedly knew Moore.
Police say a 74-year-old man was shot to death inside his St. Pete home.
St. Pete police said if that individual becomes a suspect, they will issue a warrant for arrest and relocation back across the bay.
"We discovered that a gentleman that we were interested in speaking to was over in Tampa, picked up by the Tampa Police Department," Knight said. "At this time, no charges have been issued, but he has been detained by TPD."
FOX 13 spoke on the phone with Nicole Boyd, the step-daughter of late Moore, who said the family is "heartbroken."
