BUSHNELL, Fla. - The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell held a Memorial Day ceremony for the fallen who served our country.
It was the largest ceremony in the state which drew people from all over, including Ed Franks, who drove up from Land O' Lakes.
“I think it’s great, its really wonderful, It’s a very good tribute to all the vets,” said Franks.
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May. Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. Service Members who died while on active duty.
First enacted to honor Union and Confederate soldiers following the American Civil War, it was extended after World War I to honor Americans who have died in all wars.
Nearly 130,000 veterans and military civilians are buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
