Mobile service brings veterinary car to senior pet owners

Veterinarians from the Humane Society of Pinellas County are making house calls for pets belonging to seniors who may struggle to take their furry friends in for an appointment.

For Dorothy Thompson and her dog, Angel, the service means she and her loyal canine companion can stay together, longer.

Thompson lives in an assisted living facility. Taking Angel to the clinic for check-ups would be difficult so the clinic comes to her.

It's part of a mobile medical program called Senior Pet Connection.

"A lot of the seniors in the area, they're homebound so they can't get to our clinic. We bring the medical care directly to them so they don't have to worry about that aspect," said Dr. Brenton Gallas, the medical director of the Humane Society of Pinellas County. "It's great that we can basically come to their doorstep and offer the same veterinary care that we have in our clinic."

It's given Thompson and others like her one less thing to worry about.
