Nearly 2 dozen New Year's Eve DUI arrests in Tampa, Hillsborough County

The Brief

    • A total of 23 people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence across Hillsborough County on Tuesday.
    • Law enforcement made a total of 139 traffic stops, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

TAMPA, Fla. - Law enforcement across Hillsborough County, including the city of Tampa, arrested nearly two dozen people on DUI charges on New Year's Eve, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

HCSO deputies, along with the Tampa Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol, combined for 139 traffic stops and 23 DUI arrests countywide on Tuesday, according to officials.

The sheriff's office said the traffic stops during the joint operation also led to 121 warnings and 16 citations.

"This collaborative effort not only held offenders accountable but also served as a reminder to everyone in our community to make responsible decisions and prioritize safety," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "Together, we're working to save lives and prevent tragedies before they happen."
