Neighborhood canvass set for Monday to find answers to unsolved 2018 murder of Winter Haven man

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Winter Haven police announced a neighborhood canvass with relatives of Darnell Powell, who was shot while sleeping at a friend's home back in 2018. Police still haven't identified a suspect or made any arrests.

It will take place Monday, Nov. 1, and comes two weeks after CrimeStoppers increased the reward for information to $9,500.

Darnell Powell was only 21 years old when his life was cut short by a bullet that pierced through a bedroom window at 4:26 a.m. September 29, 2018.  He was sleeping at a friend’s house on the 500 block of Avenue V Northeast when someone shot through the bedroom window.

Police say his friend had an argument with someone earlier that night.

"We have had information," said Chief David Brannan of the Winter Haven Police Department. "We have run down everything we can."

But there has not been a break in the case.
