New, all-female generation takes helm at Yuengling

TAMPA (FOX 13) - The oldest brewery in America is pouring it on for younger customers and it's no accident. D.G. Yuengling and Son Brewery started in 1829 in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, but the sixth generation of family ownership looks decidedly different than the five who came before.

The brewing company was passed down, father to son -- until now.  

"It's four girls," Debbie Yuengling said with a smile.

She came to the family's Tampa brewery to shoot commercials for a new ad campaign. She and her sisters -- Wendy, Jennifer, and Sheryl -- joined their father Dick to run the company.

"It's not out of the realm for us. It's business, it's work, it's what we do," Debbie said.

Yuengling started brewing in Tampa in 1999. Dick Yuengling was in the area that year for the Philadelphia Phillies' spring training. That's when he saw the old Stroh's brewery for sale and bought it for his family-owned beer company.

The Tampa brewery employs 135 and is the largest of its three breweries.

The Yuengling daughters collaborated to brew the company's latest offering - the Golden Pilsner. Production just got underway at the breweries and it's about to hit the stores.

"I think it's going to be an exciting time for the brewery," added Debbie.
