NFL Foundation and Bucs grant funds new youth fields in Tampa

Building a "Field of Dreams" begins with the most important part, the field.

"What better groundbreaking can you have than new sports field," said Mayor Jane Castor. 

On Wednesday, the city of Tampa, Cando Sports, and the Buccaneers all teamed up to break ground on two brand-new sports fields off South Morton Street, in the Port Tampa community.  

These new fields will be finished by the end of the year.

The old, mostly unused field will become a full sized real turf football field and youth soccer field. 

"These fields will be able to used for a number of activities: lacrosse, soccer whatever the kids see as a need," Mayor Castor said. "It is going to become such a special asset for this growing part of town.

The NFL Foundation and Buccaneers are helping to fund the project through a $100,000 grant. 

The fields should be ready by December of this year.
