FHP: Spring Hill man dies in crash after speeding, losing control of vehicle

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly rollover crash in Hernando County.

It happened around 1:37 p.m. at the corner of Elgin and Mariner boulevards. According to troopers, a 57-year-old man from Spring Hill was speeding along Marine Boulevard, approaching the intersection when he lost control of his vehicle.

The vehicle crossed over the southbound lanes, entered the west shoulder, and slammed into a traffic light pole, control box, and pedestrian signal, according to FHP. Investigators said the vehicle overturned and the driver, who was not publicly identified by troopers, died at the scene. They said he was not wearing a seat belt.

The roadway has since reopened following the crash.

County officials say school bus transportation officials are aware of the road closures. There is no word yet on when lanes will reopen.
