DADE CITY, Fla. (FOX 13) - At least one person was found dead after an early morning fire at a home in Dade City, officials said Tuesday.
Pasco County firefighters said they responded after a jogger in the area notified police to the fire at the home, located in the 37800 block of Southview Avenue.
A Dade City police sergeant was the first to arrive at the scene, where he saw a woman lying on the floor in a room. He forced entry into the home and pulled the woman out the front door, where he was met by fire rescue personnnel who tried to revive her.
She died at the scene along with a cat and a bird, officials said.
The fire was contained to one room and was quickly extinguished.
The woman's age and identity have not been released.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
