Panther wearing collar captured in South Florida

A young panther was captured in a Parkland neighborhood after it was spotted walking toward a resident's driveway Tuesday morning.

Residents called the Broward County Sheriff's Office who contacted trappers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. The trappers responded and captured the Florida panther, which was wearing a collar.

The panther was tranquilized and will either be released back into the wild or returned to its owner, if it has one.

The panther is believed to be about six-months-old and weighs between 50 and 60 pounds.

“It’s nice to see them,” FWC Lt. Robert Laubenberger told WSVN, “and when we see one this way, hopefully we can get it all ‘rehabbed’ up and actually release it back to the wild or take it to a permanent person.”

Wildlife officers are investigating.
