Part of Westshore Plaza may be rezoned for mixed-use space
TAMPA, Fla. (FOX 13) - Westshore Plaza may be getting a new look. The mall filed a rezoning request with the city of Tampa to redevelop part of its property into an outdoor-style shopping area.
The Ohio-based company that owns the mall, Washington Prime Group said ideas are still being finalized.
Renderings acquired by the Tampa Bay Business Journal show a design concept that includes condos, apartments, offices, and even a grocery store.
According to a spokesperson with the Washington Prime Group, the new development would replace the Sears building located along North Westshore and Kennedy boulevards.
Shoppers say they're excited.
“I think it’s exciting because a lot of people gave up on strip malls, and they’re not really relevant anymore,” said Samantha Brooks.
The rezoning hearing is scheduled for May 9.
