Suspect in custody after SWAT standoff

A man who was recently released from prison is accused of violating a "no-contact" order, firing a shot at deputies, and threatening to blow up a house. Aaron Mesmer reports.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says a man who just got out of jail caused a standoff Friday in Holiday.

According to PCSO, Eric Dykstra went to the home of a woman who had a no contact order against him. Sheriff Chris Nocco said the woman wasn't home, but she could see on her security cameras that Dykstra was, so she called 911.

Nocco said, as deputies arrived, Dykstra fired a shot, threatened law enforcement and then threatened to blow up his house.

The sheriff said investigators could see on the cameras that there were two propane tanks in the home with a red container on top of it. Fearing the worst, nearby homes were evacuated.

It's unclear if Dykstra planned to harm the woman, but deputies were relieved she wasn't home to find out.

Pasco County sheriff on barricaded man in Holiday

The sheriff of Pasco County held a news conference Friday afternoon on the case of a man, who had just gotten out of jail, who violated a no contact order and barricaded himself in a home in Holiday.

"The angels are looking upon her that she just happened to look on her cameras and see that he was in that house," Nocco said. "He did fire a round while law enforcement was approaching. He did say that he was going to blow things up. I mean, who knows what he would have done to that victim, but we're very blessed by God that we didn't have another domestic violence killing in our community."

After four hours of negotiations, Nocco said the situation ended peacefully with Dykstra being taken into custody.
