Pasco deputies: Man stabbed girlfriend to death
NEW PORT RICHEY (FOX 13) - A young woman is dead and the man deputies say killed her is recovering from self-inflicted wounds after an apparent breakup turned violent Friday night in New Port Richey.
Deputies are looking into Facebook posts made just hours before the murder that could be used as evidence.
Friends and neighbors in are in shock after learning about this stabbing and attempted suicide in a home on Green Key Road.
“[Her death] shocks me because he loved her. He really loved her. I don't understand how this could happen because I thought he couldn't lay a finger on her,” one neighbor said.
Amy Marinec with the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said deputies got a call from Deyvon Heath’s mother, who said her son just confessed to stabbing and killing his girlfriend, Felicia Rich. Calling from another state, Heath’s mother told deputies Deyvon had also stabbed himself.
Deputies arrived to a gruesome scene: 28-year-old Felicia Rich had been stabbed to death and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Deyvon Heath was clinging to life after apparently stabbing himself in the neck.
Rich's mother says her daughter moved from Tennessee to Florida last year for a fresh start. She met Heath and the two moved in together. By all accounts, they seemed happy - until Friday. That's when Rich’s mother, Carolyn Booker says her daughter told her they'd been fighting and she planned to leave Deyvon.
Pasco County deputies say they're looking into posts made on Rich's Facebook page just hours before her death.
“Sometimes you just have to walk away and consider it a lost cause,” Rich posted on Friday afternoon.
Heath replied, “All due to the stupid alcohol.”
Heath and Rich's mother exchanged several emotional messages in the comments below Rich’s post. In his final posts of the night, timestamped 4:25 p.m., Heath writes, “I should've been more understanding,” and then “I don't know what to do.”
Felicia Rich changed her profile photo at 4:14 p.m., which marks her last publically-visible post.
Three hours later, Heath's mom called 911 to report Rich's death.
Deputies say Heath is expected to recover from his self-inflicted wounds. He's being charged with first-degree murder.
