FROSTPROOF, Fla. - A man was killed in a fiery crash on US 27 near George Street in Frostproof Sunday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators say 46-year-old Robert Castillo, Jr. of Frostproof was speeding south on US 27 in a 2005 black Nissan 350Z. That's when deputies say the car went off the road near George Street.

The car went south across a grass and concrete median and the northbound lanes and continued down a grass embankment. The passenger in the vehicle, 42-year-old Donnie Joe Lee, was thrown from the vehicle as it began to roll.
After the crash, deputies say the car was engulfed in flames.

Authorities confirmed the passenger died at the scene, and Castillo was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
US 27 was closed for about four hours while deputies investigated the crash. They said their investigation is ongoing and remains active.
