Pig races: A Florida State Fair tradition
TAMPA (FOX 13) - If you just can't wait for the Daytona 500 this weekend, we found some races that just might hold you over.
Four times a day at the Florida State Fair, you can catch the Hollywood Racing Pigs. Racers with names like Pig-a-chu, the Notorious P-I-G, and Kim Kardashi-ham run the course, avoiding obstacles (sometimes) for the ultimate prize, at least for pigs: An Oreo cookie.
Of course, there’s more than just pig races. Fairgoers can get their hands on some new fair foods this year, including BBQ pulled pork ribbon fries, bacon bomb burgers, bacon cheeseburger chompers, Canadian poutine, a catfish sundae, chicken and waffle pizza, and deep-fried strawberry shortcake, among other goodies.
In addition to concerts and the midway full of rides, there are also livestock contests and exhibits, a bear show, Circus Hollywood, extreme BMX, and characters and shows for kids.
