Pinellas County deputy suffers non-life threatening injuries after being hit by vehicle: PCSO

A Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hit by a vehicle Thursday evening while responding to an unrelated call for service, officials say.

What we know:

According to the PCSO, Deputy Jason Anderson was responding to an unrelated call on the edge of the roadway on 106th Terrace in Seminole.

Around 9:45 p.m., 37-year-old Shaira Wester was traveling northbound on 104th Street in a 2010 Ford Fusion. According to deputies, Wester stated that a car in the southbound lanes had its high beams activated, which blocked her view of Deputy Anderson.

When Wester proceeded northbound, the passenger-side fender of her vehicle hit Deputy Anderson, throwing him to the ground.

Deputy Anderson was sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, where he remains in stable condition with two skull fractures, a fractured wrist and lacerations to his face.

Deputies said Wester. She was uninjured and stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Impairment and speed did not appear to be a factor.

At this time, deputies said Wester would not be charged.

What we don't know:

It is not known when Deputy Anderson will be released from the hospital.

The investigation is still ongoing and more updates will come as it becomes available.
