Pinellas County deputy seriously injured in crash involving tanker truck on Pasco County road

A Pinellas County deputy suffered serious injuries while on duty in an early morning crash involving a tanker truck in Pasco County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to investigators, Deputy Dakota Dellechiaie's marked patrol vehicle hit an AmeriGas Propane tanker truck that was backing into a driveway off Hudson Avenue in Shady Hills shortly before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Troopers said the deputy's Chevy Tahoe ended up under the tanker truck's trailer, which was across both lanes of the road at the time of the crash.

Rescuers were able to get Dellechiaie, 32, out of the vehicle and to the hospital.

PCSO said the deputy suffered "very serious head injuries" and is stable at the hospital.

The driver of the tanker truck was not hurt.

Dellechiaie, 32, has been with the sheriff's office since 2019 and was on his way to his assigned shift when the crash happened, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Drivers are asked to continue avoiding Hudson Avenue while crews burn off propane.
