Pizza Cones: Pizza in a cone!

Pizza Cones, a brand new shop that opened up in Safety Harbor, is the ultimate in take-out.

It's exactly what it's called: a pizza in a cone, which allows for perfect transportability for lunch or dinner on-the-go.

The shop opened up along Main Street about six weeks ago by Javier Hernandez, who runs the restaurant with his wife and his nephew. Hernandez left his corporate career, which required a lot of travel, to settle down in Safety Harbor with his family.

Each pizza cone is about a slice of pizza's worth of handmade dough shaped into a cone by a special machine and filled with nearly two slices worth of pizza toppings, then baked.

The restaurant offers traditional toppings like pepperoni, sausage, extra cheese, and even Hawaiian, but Hernandez says customers can make any combination of toppings they want for no extra charge.

There are also gluten-free cones as well as dessert cones (Nutella and Boston Creme), but for those who don't like pizza, there are "UDABOSS" Salads, which are salads filled with any ingredients or toppings, including vegetables, meat or fruit.

Hernandez says the goal at Pizza Cones is for families to gather at the restaurant and have fun in the family-friendly atmosphere. He's happy with the response he's gotten from the community so far. "It's been a short ride, but a really wild ride," said Hernandez.
