Police shoot, kill man pointing military-style rifle at drivers in Tarpon Springs

A man pointing a military-style rifle at drivers in Tarpon Springs was shot and killed by police on Saturday night.

It happened shortly before 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Pinellas Avenue and Tarpon Avenue.

According to the Tarpon Springs Police Department, responding officers shot the suspect several times after they say he pointed the gun at them and several occupied cars. 

The officers administered first aid and the suspect was taken to Bayonet Point Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  

Police have not released the name of the suspect or the officers involved in the shooting.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney's Office are investigating.
