Purple Alert issued for missing man with arrest warrant: HCSO

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office has issued a Purple Alert for a man with an active warrant who's considered missing and endangered after investigators say he threatened to harm himself.

What we know:

According to HCSO, Nicholas Vance, 33, recently made "irrational statements" about self-harm.

The sheriff's office says Vance has an active warrant for domestic battery, intimidating a witness, false imprisonment, violation of probation, and absconding.

Vance is described as 6'2" tall and 220 pounds with brown hair, blue eyes and a large neck tattoo.

HCSO says Vance may be in the area of Highgrove Rd. in Spring Hill.

HCSO did not say when Vance was last seen.

HCSO says Purple Alerts are issued for missing adults who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • The individual has a mental or cognitive disability that is not Alzheimer's disease or a dementia-related disorder; an intellectual or developmental disability (brain injury, physical/mental/emotional disability not related to substance abuse, or any combination of these).
  • The disappearance indicates a credible threat of immediate danger or serious bodily harm to him or herself, as determined by local law enforcement.
  • The individual cannot be returned to safety without law enforcement intervention.
  • The individual does not meet the criteria for activation of a local Silver Alert or the Silver Alert Plan of the Department of Law Enforcement.
