Salvation Army concerned by lack of bell ringers

It’s a familiar sound this time of year, the ringing of bells by Salivation Army volunteers. But this year, it’s a sound that might not be as prevalent as in previous years.

In Tampa, only 70 of the 130 volunteer slots were filled on Black Friday. Salvation Army officials say they will struggle to fund some of their programs if the shortage continues.

The Tampa Bay region has a total of 500 bell ringing sites, and the agency still needs to fill 230 of them for the rest of the year.

The Salvation Army has launched a news, easy to use, registration site for potential bell ringers.
