Sarasota officer accidentally shoots himself
NORTH PORT (FOX 13) - Officers with the Sarasota and North Port Police Departments have launched an investigation after an off-duty Sarasota officer accidentally shot himself.
Just before 6:30 p.m. Monday, North Port officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Morgan Family Community Center. When they arrived they found the 25-year-old officer with what appeared to an accidental self-inflicted shooting.
The officer was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
“Officers with the Sarasota Police Department are working with the North Port Police Department to investigate this shooting. There will be an in-depth review of this incident to ensure all policies and procedures were followed,” the SPD said in a press release.
