By the numbers: Speed-detection cameras located within school zones operate during all school hours, activating 30 minutes before school starts and deactivating 30 minutes after school ends.

The cameras do not monitor traffic outside those hours, on weekends, or during holidays.

When active, the cameras capture images of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 mph or more.

After being reviewed by the Bradenton Police Department, the registered owner of the speeding vehicle receives a $100 violation. Failure to pay the fine or request a hearing within 30 days will result in a Uniform Traffic Citation ticket.

Lake Alfred

What we know: The City of Lake Alfred is also moving into the next phase of its school zone speed enforcement program.

Starting Monday, citations will officially be issued to drivers exceeding school zone speed limits by more than 10 mph, following a warning period that began in November at Lake Alfred Elementary.
