Scooter driver killed in crash.
CLEARWATER (FOX 13) - The driver of a scooter was killed overnight after another person ran a red light, according to police. Officials say that driver was impaired.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Belcher Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard in Clearwater.
Police say the driver of a Chrysler Sebring ran a red light and hit the scooter. The scooter was then pinned between two cars.
The driver of the scooter was brought to the hospital as a trauma alert, but later died. The driver of the second car involved in the crash was brought to Morton Plant Hospital with minor injuries.
Nearly all lanes of traffic were closed while police investigated the crash. They were reopened a few hours later.
Officials say the person driving the Sebring was impaired. Charges are expected to be filed against them.
