Traffic was at a standstill in the southbound lanes of I-75 in Wesley Chapel for more than three hours Wednesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash involving two semi-trucks.

It happened between State Road 54 and State Road 56 around 8 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. One driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after the crash.

Troopers said a BMW 330E was heading southbound on I-75 while one of the semi-trucks was heading in the same direction, behind the BMW. Meanwhile, officials said the BMW X7, a GMC Denali pickup and the other semi-truck were all stopped in traffic in the southbound lanes.

According to FHP, the BMW 330E changed lanes into the path of the first semi-truck and was struck. The impact of the crash forced the BMW 330E into the other BMW involved.

Authorities said that's when the semi-truck involved in the crash continued forward and hit the GMC Denali pickup and the other semi-truck.

The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed in the area until just after 11:15 a.m., troopers said. The driver of the GMC Denali pickup, a 50-year-old Brooksville man, was taken to the hospital. The other drivers involved were not injured in the crash, according to FHP.
