Stolen AirPods lead deputies to fired Florida man accused of stealing $100K in tools from former co-workers

A Florida man who deputies say blamed his co-workers for getting him fired landed behind bars thanks to a set of AirPods that was among $100K worth of goods he is accused of stealing from his former colleagues.

Deputies in Lee County were called to the Sutherland Nissan Auto Dealership in Fort Myers earlier this week to investigate a reported burglary.

Employees said someone stole several toolboxes and tools worth about $100,000 from them.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, one of the victims contacted detectives because their Apple AirPods that were left in one of the stolen toolboxes were pinging to CubeSmart Storage located at 2314 Skyline Boulevard in Cape Coral.

Detectives went to the storage facility and tracked the audible ping to a storage unit that was rented by Michael Conan Hohner.

Surveillance video also showed Hohner unloading the suspected toolboxes into the facility.

The victims told detectives that Hohner was recently let go from his job and said he blamed his co-workers for his termination.

Hohner was arrested at Audi of Fort Myers, his most recent employer, and charged with larceny grand theft and burglary.
