Barricaded man leads to standoff in Plant City
Hillsborough County deputies are in a standoff with a man who barricaded himself inside a home in Plant City. Josh Cascio reports.
PLANT CITY, Fla. - A man who shot at family members barricaded himself inside his Plant City home Tuesday evening, prompting a massive Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office presence.
Authorities said the hours-long standoff did end peacefully around noon on Wednesday at the home on Swindell Road.
Deputies said they first responded to the home after reports of someone shooting a gun outside his home at around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family told deputies that the man received bad news about his health and emotional and distraught.
Hillsborough County deputies are outside a Plant City home where a man has barricaded himself inside.
During this, the man ended up shooting at his family before going inside his home and refusing to come out, according to the sheriff's office.
Investigators said they worked throughout the night to get in contact with man, who was still armed, but they couldn't get him outside. HCSO's SWAT, Crisis Negotiation Team and the Bomb Disposal Team were dispatched to help de-escalate the situation.
During the stand-off, residents nearby were asked to stay indoors.
After talking with the man inside the home for several hours, deputies were able to reach the man inside his home without incident, HCSO said. He was then taken to South Florida Baptist Hospital for medical attention, according to authorities.
The man has not yet been charged, and the investigation is still active, according to deputies.
