Tampa General Hospital earns top ranking for transplants after record-setting year

Tampa General Hospital's Transplant Institute is getting new national recognition. It has just been named the number one transplant hospital in the country in terms of volume.

It has been a remarkable few years for the Transplant Institute at TGH. The sheer number of transplants has saved many lives, while new technology is allowing for more organs to be transplanted.

By the numbers: Hospital officials say TGH set a new national record for transplant procedures in one year, totaling 889 in 2024.

Kidneys, living donor kidneys, livers, living donor livers, hearts, lungs and pancreas were among the organs transplanted last year at TGH.

"This is an achievement built on decades of work," Dr. Kiran Dhanireddy, Vice President & Chief of the TGH Transplant Institute, said.
