The Tampa Police Department is asking people to review their recent bank activity after a card-skimming device was found at two Tampa ATMs.

These card skimmers are usually disguised to look like part of the ATM.

TPD says a maintenance worker discovered and reported one of the skimmers at the 7-Eleven on Dale Mabry Hwy. near Spruce St.

During the investigation, officers say they were notified of the other skimmer at a separate 7-Eleven on Hillsborough Ave. near N Habana Ave.

If you have used either of these ATMs and you believe you may have been a victim, TPD wants you to call 813-231-6130 and mention report number 25-14095.

TPD has a few reminders to prevent yourself from credit card skimming.

  • Regularly inspect ATMs before using them. Look for any signs of tampering, such as loose parts, misaligned card slots, or anything that appears to have been added or altered.
  • Shield your PIN by covering the keypad with your hand while entering your code.
  • Be wary of ATMs in unusual locations and avoid using ATMs in secluded or poorly lit areas.
  • Monitor your bank and credit card accounts regularly.
  • Check your statements for any unauthorized charges.
  • Report any suspicious activity to your bank or credit card company immediately.
  • Update your PIN's and passwords frequently.
  • Consider using a credit card with fraud protection.
