Tampa police investigating death of man in custody
TAMPA, Fla. - The Tampa Police Department is investigating after a man died while in custody on Thursday.
Officers responded to reports of a man "acting erratically" at Sav-A-Lot off E. Broadway shortly before 3 p.m., police said. By the time police arrived, the man had left.
About an hour later, the man approached another officer at a nearby bank and claimed he was being followed. Police soon took the man into custody under the Baker Act.
Police took the man to Gracepoint Wellness, where his erratic behavior continued, according to TPD.

The man began foaming at the mouth while Gracepoint staff were assessing him with officers present, police said.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but did not survive.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
TPD did not release the man's name, only saying he was in his 30s.
