Bicyclist killed after veering into traffic on Waters Avenue: TPD

The Tampa Police Department is investigating a deadly crash that claimed the life of a bicyclist early Thursday morning.

Police say a man in his 40s was riding a bike on the sidewalk in the 2100 block of the northside of W. Waters Avenue shortly before 6 a.m. when he veered into a traffic lane on the roadway.

That's when the cyclist, according to investigators, was struck by a white Nissan pickup truck that was traveling westbound.

Upon impact, the cyclist was knocked off the bike, according to TPD.

TPD says officers tried to provide life-saving measures, but the cyclist died from his injuries.

Police say the driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Officers added that there are no criminal charges or citations pending.

W. Waters Ave. was closed for about three hours while officers investigated. All lanes of traffic are now open.
