Tampa police search for witnesses to New Year’s Day shooting

The Tampa Police Department is searching for people who may have witnessed a shooting on New Year’s Day. 

Police say these individuals are not considered suspects, but may have information that could help solve the case. 

Tampa New Year’s Day shooting

The backstory:

Police say a teen was shot around 1 a.m. on January 1, 2025, near the intersection of N. Tampa St. and E. Cass St.

She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated and released from an area hospital. 

After looking at surveillance video from the area, detectives identified three people who were in the area at the time of the shooting and may have information that is relevant to the investigation.

Tampa gun violence on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

What we know:

Four shootings, including one that was deadly, took place in the span of about 12 hours on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in Tampa. 

Security guard shot

What we know:

A security guard was shot near Curtis Hixon shortly before midnight on Dec. 31, 2024. He said he was providing security at a private event when he saw the juveniles on scooters and bikes throwing fireworks. When he went to see what was going on, he said the group opened fire on him. 

The shooter is still on the loose. 

Deadly Tally Ho shooting

What we know:

A few hours later, a man was shot and killed at the Tally Ho Bar and Grill. 

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office worked together to arrest 39-year-old Curtis Williams in connection with that shooting.

Second teen shot on New Year’s Day

What we know:

A 15-year-old boy was shot shortly before noon on New Year’s Day near a home on 28th Avenue and North 18th Street. 

Few details were released, but the teen’s injuries were not life-threatening. 

Police said the shooting doesn’t appear to be random, but nobody has been arrested.
