Tampa shooting leaves 14-year-old critically injured

A 14-year-old boy was shot in an East Tampa neighborhood, police said, and they are searching for the suspected gunman.

The shooting occurred before midnight on Wednesday near the intersection of 31st Street and Cayuga Street. When Tampa police arrived, they found the victim, De'Nico Thomas, lying on the ground. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital, and as of Thursday morning, he was listed as critical condition.

According to the Tampa Police Department, the suspect vehicle, described as a white or light-colored sedan, possibly a Lexus, pulled up near the area and fired a gun toward the teenager. Police said the vehicle fled, and they do not have a suspect description.
