Tampa woman found guilty of manslaughter after 2022 shooting in Sarasota: SCSO

A Sarasota County jury has found a 19-year-old woman guilty of manslaughter nearly three years after a shooting that killed a teen and injured two other juveniles.

The shooter, Sha’Miya Williams of Tampa, was 16 at the time of the incident on Feb. 6, 2022.

Backstory: According to Sarasota police, Williams fired shots in the 2200 block of Palmadelia Ave.

A 17-year-old boy later died from his injuries, while a 16-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl survived.

Six other juveniles were in the line of fire, but were not injured, police said at the time.

Another suspect, Thamar Liafortune, who was also 16 at the time of the shooting, faces murder and attempted murder charges.

Williams was convicted of one count of manslaughter and eight counts of attempted manslaughter.

What's next: Sentencing for Williams will happen at another date.
