A Tarpon Springs son is accused of shooting and killing his father after Tarpon Springs Detectives say the man called 911 and reported the shooting.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Tuesday, the Tarpon Springs Police Department said they received a 911 call from a home on Lonesome Pine Lane. Police said 25-year-old Evan Costello told dispatchers that he shot his 68-year-old father, James.

"I'm just, my dog got really sick tonight and he ate one of my dad's pills or something," the 911 caller said. "And I just lost, I don't know I just got upset. And he was, we were arguing."

Evan Costello remained on the phone with 911 dispatchers until police arrived and took him into custody.

Officers said they found the victim dead in a third-floor bedroom. The son was arrested on a murder charge.

Police said the father and son were the only two people home at the time of the deadly shooting.

Evan Costello appeared before a Pinellas County judge where he was appointed a court attorney.

He's being held without bail on a first-degree murder charge.
