Teens left "school shooting" note on a dare; now face felony charges

Three Polk County teenagers are facing felony charges after deputies say they left a threatening note in a teacher's mailbox – on a dare.

According to Auburndale police, the spouse of an Auburndale High School teacher found the note in a mailbox outside a home on Friday. "School shooting" was written on the paper along with what police called "a rudimentary drawing that appeared to be depict students, desks and exit signs."

"The note did not specify any specific school, timeframe, or location," police noted.

After showing surveillance footage to school staff, three teens were identified. They later told police they found the note on the floor of the school and they dared each other to leave the note in a random mailbox while walking home.

All three now face a felony charge of threats to do harm or kill.
