Thieves target pricey purses
ST. PETERSBURG (FOX 13) - Police say high-end handbags are a relatively new and frequent target of Bay-area thieves.
"They're easy to get rid of on E-bay, no serial numbers, as a matter of fact you can sell them on the street very easily and get a pretty good dollar amount for them," said Mike Puetz, spokesman for the St. Petersburg Police Department.
Investigators are looking for at least two sets of suspects, seen in surveilance video, who may be responsible for multiple thefts.
Police in St. Petersburg are looking into a couple seen on video stealing several thousand dollars worth of Michael Kors bags from the Tyrone Square Mall Macy's store. In the latest incident, the male suspect even wore a shirt that said 'security' across the chest.
Detectives believe the couple is also responsible for stealing purses from a Clearwater Macy's. They were spotted in a grey or silver Nissan.
In Hillsborough County, deputies are looking for three suspects responsible for the theft of nearly $8,000 worth of Dooney & Bourke handbags. The thieves took the purses from the Dillards at Citrus Park Town Center.
