Third person dies after Christmas night crash at Hillsborough County intersection

An 87-year-old man died on Friday, two days after he was involved in a three-vehicle crash on Christmas night at a Hillsborough County intersection, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at around 6 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 301 at Ambelside Blvd. in Riverview.

FHP said the 87-year-old was driving a Hyundai Sonata and turned into the path of a Kia Optima, which hit the Sonata.

The initial impact sent the Sonata into the path of a GMC Acadia, causing a second collision.

An 82-year-old woman and a 60-year-old woman sitting in the backseat of the Sonata died at the scene.

Two other people involved in the crash suffered minor injuries.
