KATHLEEN (FOX 13) - A train slammed into a tractor-trailer north of Lakeland this morning, leaving the trailer's load of automobiles a smashed mess.
It was around 8 a.m., the sheriff's office says, when the car-carrying truck was crossing the tracks along a dirt road that leads into an automotive business. It apparently did not clear the tracks, despite the train's warning horn blasts, and the train crashed into it.
Deputies say the impact sent five brand-new cars tumbling from the trailer, and part of the semi was knocked onto nearby Kathleen Road.
No one was hurt.
The driver was cited for failure to stop at a railroad crossing.
