Troopers: Tow truck driver hit, killed by drunk driver on I-75
APOLLO BEACH (FOX 13) - The Florida Highway Patrol said a drunk driver has been arrested following a deadly crash on I-75 Sunday morning.
The crash happened shortly after 4 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-75 near Big Bend Road in the Apollo Beach area.
According to FHP, troopers had pulled over and arrested three drivers who were caught racing on I-75. Two tow trucks were called to the scene to remove the vehicles.
Troopers said that one of the tow truck drivers, 48-year-old Troy McGuire, was loading a vehicle onto his truck when he was hit by an oncoming pickup truck that veered onto the shoulder.
McGuire was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck, 44-year-old Gregory Miller was not injured.
Troopers said Miller was driving under the influence. He has been charged with DUI manslaughter and DUI with property damage.
The southbound lanes of I-75 were shut down for several hours following the crash, but they have since reopened.
