Hurricane Milton: Bay Area schools close due to storm

LAND O' LAKES, Fla. - Schools across the Bay Area will be closed this week to open shelters due to Hurricane Milton.

Citrus County Schools

Citrus County School will be cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday. All after-school extracurricular activities on Tuesday and Wednesday are also canceled.

Hardee County Schools

The Hardee County School District will be closed on Tuesday through Thursday due to Hurricane Milton.

Hernando County Schools

All Hernando schools and district offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday with a decision for reopening expected midweek. 

Hillsborough County Schools

Hillsborough County Schools announced that all schools will be closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to allow the county to convert schools into shelters for those needing to evacuate.

Saint Leo University's Tampa Education Center locations will be closed and classes canceled Monday, October 7, through Thursday, October 10. All Saint Leo employees are to report to work on Monday, and prepare their workspace for the storm. 

The University of South Florida is closing all campuses on Monday. Normal USF business operations will continue remotely and classes will only be delivered asynchronously. On Tuesday, Oct. 8 and Wednesday, Oct. 9, all classes are canceled and all campuses will be closed.

Pasco County Schools

Pasco County Schools announced that all schools and district offices will be closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as a precaution due to Tropical Storm Milton.

The storm is forecast to become a hurricane later on Sunday and hit the west coast of Florida on Wednesday as a major hurricane.

All extracurricular activities, athletic events, and after-school programs are also canceled for those days, according to county officials.

Saint Leo University's University Campus will be closed and classes canceled Monday, October 7, through Thursday, October 10. The Center for Adult Learning will also be closed. All Saint Leo employees are to report to work on Monday, and prepare their workspace for the storm. 

Pinellas County Schools

All Pinellas County Schools and offices will be closed from Monday, October 7, through Wednesday, October 9. All sports and school activities scheduled for those dates, are also canceled. 

Polk County Schools

Polk County Schools announced that Monday’s after-school programs and sports are canceled or will be rescheduled. All PCPS schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, Oct. 8, Wednesday, Oct. 9, and Thursday, Oct. 10. 

Sarasota County Schools

All traditional public schools will be closed from Monday, October 7 through Wednesday, October 9!
